life as a wedding photographer…

today, i chanced upon the following link posted by another wedding photographer, and thought it would be good to actually share this with everyone. indeed there’s always this perception that wedding photographers only shoot during weekends and do nothing for the rest of the week.

however, this ain’t true. take a look at this link and everything behind the scenes will soon uncover.

http://www.ispwp.com/the-secret-life-of-wedding-photographers.html

amongst the exerpts in the link, i personally like the following one.

on a day to day basis, marketing, networking and other business activities take such a big chunk of time that i consider weddings my day off!

i get to relax and do what i love. and on monday, it’s back to business

how true this is.. i simply love shooting weddings!

here are some of the highlights from lit sin & krystal’s big day. enjoy!

a getaway to bali

happy new year to all! it has been quite a while since i last posted something here. anyways, right after our wedding in december, me & my ‘ex-girlfriend’ decided that we deserved a break from all the hectic wedding preparation. so… yes, a getaway to bali! – the perfect place to just rest & relax.

here are some photos to share with you. enjoy!

my little (and insignificant) surprise to adrian & ailin…

my dear adrian and his wife, ailin are in bali for honeymoon now, and i decided to give them a little surprise here by “hacking” into this wordpress account to make this post. hmm…  why do i even have to hack since i’m part of sideways too? because adrian is the sole art director / editor / dictator of this blog and our facebook account, i’m not allowed to access to them at all. i don’t even know the password and stuffs. yes, even the last post was created by him despite it was me signing off, i only provided the pics and my words to him through email.

actually no lah, haha i was just plain too lazy to post on our blog everytime, so our poor adrian gonna do it on his own whenever there’s something new. hahahaha

once again, i was “only” asked to cover for the morning session at his place because the actual day photographer, michael chan; another big name in wedding photography, was at ailin’s side. why huh? why am i always being asked to play the small role? i’m wondering when would be the day when someone would post on his blog to tell the world that, “hey, today one of the top wedding photographers, liang is actually shooting for this wedding, check it out!”. yeah right, dream on boy.

ok, enough of my gripes. here’s a little glimpse of what was happening at adrian’s place, prior to the gatecrashing.

to adrian & ailin & all sideways fans (if there’s any):  happy holidays!!!

can you spot adrian? hahaha

- liang (this time it’s really me!)

shooting my first church wedding

some might asked if i was enthusiastic about shooting my first church wedding?

if only i was not told to just cover the group shots after the ceremony and table shots during the dinner, but it was not that bad either lah.

and edmund leong, the renowned wedding photographer took on the role of shooting my cousin’s wedding on that day. fyi, my cousin was the bride.

damn… if only i’m a professional… oh yeah, i almost forgot i’m actually a professional and my professional title is an engineer. oh how nice and i’m so proud! duh…

anyway, as not to obstruct the ‘official’ wedding photographer, because i know how irritating it would be, i chose to stay at the back – actually i didn’t really choose lah, i didn’t have much of a choice anyway – to capture all those little things and happenings in the crowd.

opportunities were rare and limited, silence was golden and deafening and shutters are loud and attention-seeking in this holy ground, but i still managed to snap a few there and then.

well, besides the group photos I was obliged to take, below are some shots to sum up this celestial wedding.

- liang

george . daphne

i have always preferred non-banquet styled wedding celebrations as guests would not be confined to just the table of 10, but rather mingle around with anyone or everyone, anywhere within the compound. having said that, we had the chance to shoot for george & daphne (a very nice and accomodative couple) at raintree villa @ labrador park, with the glasshouse in the middle of a shallow pool being the highlight of the venue.

here are some of the selections that we have came up with. enjoy! as usual, more can be found in facebook! – adrian

graduation, sideways style.

congrats to the 4 curtin graduates - johnson, jasmine, meiyun & angeline. 5 actually, as the 5th graduate is me! events like convocation wasn’t my cup of chamomile tea, thus i skipped it and along with liang, we did a graduation shoot for them instead, sideways style…

the fantastic raffles convention ballroom. look at the ceiling.

DSC_2302

here’s a behind the scenes shot by liang of me attempting a shot of johnson springing over me with the majestic ballroom ceiling as the backdrop. i thought it would be interesting to share such shots, so that you peeps out there can associate with the pic and our style of working better.

DSC_2346

i thought meiyun’s expression in this pic was misleading but overjoyed. will you get so engrossed in posing for the camera that you remain so euphoric when letting go of your bf’s hand? i do not know. you would have to ask her. haha…

DSC_9708

what the heck? only until this juncture did i realize that most of the shots posted above aren’t graduation-related. my bad, as we were enjoying the casual shoot around/within the convocation area.

next up would be a marathon series of kickass graduation photos. enjoy…

i like this shot. the light from outside the building just made everything look better.

DSC_9761

okay, you may wonder why weren’t the 3 pink paper bags removed. you may say that we were lazy, but i thought the pink bags added some colour to the photo and breaks the regularity of such composition. fy(extra)i, the bags contained their graduation robes. haha.

DSC_2405

love the architectural lines of the building.

yet another great behind-the-scenes capture by liang. i personally like this shot alot. photographers ought to be role models and lead their clients to how they want them to pose for the camera. and yes, i looked like i have psycho-motor problems here. left hand left leg, right hand right leg. who was just commenting on how to lead by example eh???

johnson with the paper bag resembled some model in a tv advertisement. i cant really recall which ad it was, but nevertheless, great architectural lines once again to complement this shot.

DSC_9866

erm, no comments on his expression…

DSC_9876

this was an attempt to imitate those master photographers doing motion blur for pre wedding shoots. it turned out that the shutter speed was way too slow and the end result looked like ….

DSC_2565

attempted a cheeky shot beside this man who was soundly asleep.

DSC_9969

they got up and created a din by throwing their head gear high up, but that man was still unmoved! zzz…
p.s. my sincere apologies to angeline. this attempt landed her with a minor minor accident.

DSC_2623

behind the scenes once again. as i was preparing johnson for a shoot, liang actually snapped this up.

DSC_2647

and this was the end result - super man graduate.

exercise cut! what a shaggadelic shoot it was. look at liang on his knees. haha. but i thought both of us felt a great sense of satisfaction from this session. three cheers to everyone, including steve (meiyun’s bf) for rendering help in one way or another. i do not know who and why that uncle was in the photo, but i still would like to thank him for ‘playing a part’ in this shot. haha.

sideways at work

we did a graduation shoot few days back. instead of showing a sneak preview of the graduates, here’s one great pic of us at work! okay, not really at work though. :) anyways… enjoy!

p.s. thanks to johnson for this shot.

rustic living at lorong buangkok

after a morning run with johnson at ecp, we linked up with liang & elaine for a peak-a-boo at singapore’s sole surviving kampong. do visit the last 28 houses standing before the government flattens them for some new development & thus erasing our nation’s rustic past.

bachelor nights

yes, the man in the moment is none other than me. as how the tradition goes in my group of pals, a chalet was organized to celebrate my bachelor night, or rather nights. it’s rather an excuse to gather all of us together. there is no special attention on that one person getting hitched or ‘tied’, just that accomodation and food are on the rest. as plain simple, selfish and boring as that. but that’s just the way we are. :)

bchalet1

a tribute to thomas, who is the main organizer for this 3d2n affair. deepest thanks to him, as well as to the rest of the gang for this ‘intimate affair’. he would be next to tie the knot. thus i would be taking over the baton to arrange the next bachelor event.

bchalet2

we set off to jb for dinner on the first night. while en route, we stopped over at the petrol kiosk, where my mother is working. a cam-shy her pulled out a bunch of receipt papers in front of her face when liang tried to get a shot of her. it was a nice shot anyway.

DSC_1932

bchalet4

ok, we were just bored while waiting at the car wash. don’t think too much.

DSC_1982

that’s the ever crazy liang.

DSC_8926

we got bored while waiting for jesper to grab some stuff from his place. so i suggested a photoshoot. hope you guys like it.

and true to our group’s character, that 2 hr futsal session shagged the living hell out of them. majority of us knocked out before the bbq session. and obviously i was awake.
